Gov. Ortom Presents N163.9bn 2017 Budget

Gov. Samuel Ortom of Benue on Tuesday, presented the 2017 Appropriation Bill of N163.9 billion to the Benue House of Assembly.

Ortom made the presentation on the floor of the house during plenary.

The governor said that the Appropriation Bill was christened: “Budget of Rural Transformation’’, stressing that it should be considered a collective vision of a new Benue.

He said that out of the total sum, recurrent expenditure was N66.348 billion, while capital expenditure stood at N97.562 billion.

His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto who is currently in Enugu today held a closed door meeting with Christian leaders for peace, security, progress and national unity.

He also inaugurated Nike Lake road and Abakpa Nike roads and will proceed to Nsukka for the inauguration of more roads and Civic Reception in honour of him.

Purwanto told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that under the new policy, his Embassy would no longer be involved in visa processing, but only in the collection of visa applications.

The Russian ambassador to Turkey has been shot dead by a police officer who shouted “Don’t forget Aleppo” as he pulled the trigger.

The chilling attack on Monday evening, which was captured on video, appeared to be a backlash against Russian military involvement in the Syrian civil war.

Andrei Karlov was attacked at the opening of an art exhibition in Ankara by a man believed to be an off-duty Turkish police officer. Karlov was several minutes into a speech when he was shot. Footage of the attack showed a man dressed in a suit and tie standing calmly behind the ambassador. He then pulled out a gun, shouted “Allahu Akbar” and fired at least eight shots.

After firing at the ambassador, the man shouted in Turkish: “Don’t forget Aleppo. Don’t forget Syria. Unless our towns are secure, you won’t enjoy security. Only death can take me from here. Everyone who is involved in this suffering will pay a price.”

He also shouted in Arabic: “We are the one who pledged allegiance to Muhammad, to wage jihad.”

Falana Seeks Pardon For 70 Soldiers Serving 10 Years For Mutiny

Lagos lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to pardon 70 soldiers found guilty of mutiny by various military court martial since 2014.

He made the request in a letter to the President on December 19, 2016, pursuant to Section 175 of the 1999 Constitution.The 70 soldiers, whose death sentence was commutted to 10 years imprisonment, are in custody at the Ikoyi and Kirikiri Prisons in Lagos State.
