The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (Denosa) says reports of the delay of an ambulance to pick up Kwaito star Mandoza highlights the glaring weaknesses in the country's healthcare system
.
It has emerged that the family of Mandoza whose real name is Mduduzi Tshabalala had to wait for close to three hours for an ambulance to arrive at his home.
Mandoza died on Sunday after losing the battle to cancer. His memorial service will be held at the Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
Denosa's Sibongiseni Delihlazo says the shortage of resources in healthcare facilities often leads to unnecessary deaths.
“We send our sincere condolences to the family of Mandoza as well as the music fans across the country; however we are very worried about the issue of the shortage of ambulances. It is an issue which has always been raised, which also talks to the shortage of resources in health basically. This tends to hurt a lot of patients and most of whom have stopped calling ambulances because of these famous delays.”
Mandoza will be laid to rest on Friday at the Heroes Acre Section in the Westpark cemetery.
